This ornamental light is part of a fallen beech trunk, with all the signs of aging and decay. It split into lovely longitudinal lengths which when cleaned treated and prepared made wonderful shapes. Mounted on an oak block for stability, and with a light installed in the base, it still lacked something to give it a truely unique appeal.
I put a series of round black wooden pegs from top to bottom, and it is amazing the difference they made. With the light turned on, they cast shadows pointing towards the top, until the curviture of the wood hides them from the light, giving it a completely different night time appearance that daytime, when only the lower section is highlighted by light .
Placed over the light is a small collection of coloured crystals. These can be placed as required to change light pattens on the wood.
It is shown on a sideboard, but is big enough to stand on the floor.
Dimensions: 1.1m high x 20cm x 20 cm at the base.
